Years on Team:
Miles Daisher
Quote:

Settle down Daisher.

History:
“If at first you don’t succeed, BASE jumping is not for you,” cautions Miles Daisher with his signature laugh. Miles has succeeded at BASE jumping more than 2,485 times – unofficially more than anyone else on the planet. “You’ve got to keep yourself physically strong and mentally awake,” he says. “You need to practice safety and good healthy lifestyles.” The athlete’s fitness was put to the test in 2005, when he set a BASE jumping “hike and huck” record by launching fifty-seven times in a single day, climbing a total of nearly 29,000 vertical feet to do so. “That’s almost Everest!” he exclaims. “And I'm talking from the beach to the top, not from base camp!”

Like all Red Bull Air Force athletes, Miles excels in a variety of disciplines. He has logged over 2,400 skydives, and he can’t get enough of the new wingsuit technology. Always amped, in his earthbound moments Miles even writes songs about airsports, like the rap he composed called “Living the Dream Falling.”

A United States Air Force brat well before he joined the RBAF, Miles grew up on military bases, which is how he was able to win a U.K. wrestling championship and pole vault title. Back in the States, he took his first solo skydive at age 25 and made his first BASE jump two years later. With a competitive nature that urges him to “win at everything, even when no one else is competing,” Miles soon was making a living at the sport he loved best. Today, the 39-year-old teaches others how to fly at Miles D’s BASE Camp in Twin Falls, Idaho; and he and his wife Nikki, proud parents of two girls, also organize the annual Perrine Bridge Festival to raise money for special needs kids. Miles is stoked pretty much all the time. (“If I’m not on fire going a million miles an hour, I’m sleeping, resting up for the next cool moment in time,” he comments.) And two of the things he’s most stoked about are working with his wingsuit and shooting footage for the new “Human Flight: 3D” movie. “Flying in a squirrel (wing) suit is totally surreal,” he announces. “You’re falling, but zooming forward so fast that time slows down. It’s like…like ‘Rocky and Bullwinkle!’” As for the film, it’s going to dazzle audiences with “the most amazing footage,” Miles declares, practically bouncing out of his chair as he counts off a brilliant list of worldwide locations. “People are going to feel like they’re right in the harness with us!”

Dubai JBR building jump. Here we are peering down to the LZ the night before the event. Only a road, parking lot and some structures to clear to make it to the beach. I love a good challenge. Keeps it real.

Human Flight 3D takes flight in the Albatross. July 3rd was a beautiful partly cloudy day in Sebastian. Exactly what we needed to fly the Albatross around some really pretty puffies. Two touch and goes and two intercoastal water landings were really really cool too. I’d like to thank captains John Shoffner and Mike Vail for the tour of Sea and Sky. Getting chased by the Twin Star heli with the 3D camera mounted to it, added to the coolness.

Swooping Seattle with Squirrel Suits Super Spectacularly! Say this ten times fast. Nice one you got it. Well, Luke Aikins organized up a party in the sky for the squirrel team of Andy Farrington, Jon Devore, himself and I to fly over the iconic Space Needle in Downtown Seattle. As you know the Pacific Northwest weather played a minor role in making this plan come together. Whe’lp. We got er done and here is the video to share and enjoy. Hope to get more of this kind of thing going. Stay tuned for more Squirrel action over New York and Pittsburgh.

Geotag Icon Show on map

Wings for Life, living the dream in a Squirrel suit Rodeo. Luke Aikins is the flying bull. Jarrett Martin, paralized from the waist down, is the rider who not only stuck the flight but was apparently throwing imaginary hand grenades and shooting Miles Daisher who flew up along side the party in the Sky. Ride ON Jarrett! Man that was a blast! You are my hero! Rock ON!
