Texas Paramotor Tandems

While in Texas chasing records, Othar and I took some time to do some tandem paramotor flights with an all-star cast of Texas Red Bull team. The video speaks for itself - they had a blast! The awesome thing about these flights is that we can offer them to friends of Red Bull, VIP’s etc. anywhere, anytime. The only thing the video doesn’t capture is the heat and humidity. What a total blast. Thank you Texas! Huge thanks to the team at parafreedom.com ( the paragliding outfitter in the Houston area ) Bud and Sonny helped make sure that we had just what we needed, when we needed it, from motors to parts and local beta.

Paragliding in Texas

Santa and I are in Texas trying to set a new record for paramotor distance with limited fuel, 2.5 gallons. Yesterday we did a photo flight and played with some clouds, it was really fun. It was my birthday so it was one heck of a birthday present to have such a beautiful flight!

Canadian Paragliding National Championships

Here’s a little video Ole Haddeland made from the Canadian Paragliding National Championships. I ended up third after missing the final two days of flying because I left early to prepare for another project. Congrats to Will Gadd, fellow Red Bull athlete, for taking the Canadian Champ title again.

Yes, I put my glider on the the roof of a shed after misjudging the wind in a tight LZ, haha! It came out unscathed. It was Chris Muller’s house so I’m sure he would be proud since I saw much worse(or better depending on your point of view) goal field landings from him. It was great to land in his yard none the less!

Canada!

I’ve been in Golden, BC, Canada this week participating in the Canadian paragliding national championships. I flew three tasks, I won two of them and got second in the other. That put my name at the top of the leader board. Unfortunately I couldn’t stay for the whole week so if they fly more I’ll lose the #1 spot. Fun times and great flying in the Canadian Rockies.

Heading to Red Bull summer camp!!!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!! I’m packing my bags to go to Red Bull Summer Camp in Minnesota tomorrow. The camp is at Levi Levalle’s house, he’s a bad ass snowmobiler that Red Bull sponsors. The campers are all Red Bull athletes form various different sports, including, wake boarding, snowmobiling, surfing, skiing, motor biking, skydiving, paragliding, and BASE jumping, to name a few. We’re going to have a lot of toys to play with, including- boats, motorcycles, foam pits, helicopters, slip ‘n slide with a 15′ gap jump, paramotors, BASE rigs, Red Bull MXT with Cloudstreet wakeboard/ paraglider tow winch, and whatever else we can find or bring.

I have to admit I’m a little nervous to see what kind of shenanigans we get up to. I’m glad my health insurance premium has been paid this month. It should be interesting mixing that amount of talent, testosterone, and toys!

US Paragliding National Championships - Chelan, WA

I’m working on a project later this summer that is going to require that I have my cross country paragliding game together so I decided there is no better place to brush up on those skills than a cross country paragliding competition. Well, it’s been about ten years since I last competed in a cross country paragliding competition. At one point, back in the 90’s I was national champ in this discipline so it stands to reason that I might be able to pull a decent result after a 10 year hiatus. Chelan, WA was the host to the US Nationals this year and it’s always been one of my favorite places to fly so I signed up for the competition. I also got a new generation paraglider, the Gin Gliders Boomerang 7. I was able to put together 5 days of consistent results and came away with a 7th place finish. Not my best result ever but this was a training mission and I came away feeling really confident in my skills and decision making. Now I’m looking forward to the real mission next month, stay tuned…

We killed it in Oshkosh today.

Santa, Miles, and I did 21 paraglider tow-ups in 3.5hrs. Miles did 2 solo fights and a BASE huck. Our bud, and favorite Red Bull Air Force cheerleader, Luke Siele made a couple solo flights, I made a solo flight and took 16 Red Bull account owners for tandem flights. Pics and vid coming soon.

So many awesome videos and pics lately from Air Force BASE jumpers and sky divers. Wow. Hard act to follow.

Oh well, here’s a quick pic from my back yard where this morning we had a pretty good time aiming at the dirt.

Homage to the Gulf

The Gulf of Mexico is a beautiful place. I got to see dolphins, sting rays and tons of jelly fish on this flight. I sure hope they can put a plug in that oil pipe sometimes soon.
